Add columns to an insight
Add questions to an insight, fill in the answers for every row, and export the grid to Excel.
Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.
Each column in an insight is one question asked of every row. A column is one of two kinds, and the choice decides where the answer comes from:
| The answer is | Use |
|---|---|
| Already a field on the record, such as status or incorporation date | Structured field: filled straight from the record |
| In the documents, such as the governing law in each company's articles | AI question: IQ reads the record and the documents and answers, citing its sources |
Add a column
In the insight, click the + at the right-hand end of the column headings.
Choose Custom column to write your own question or pick a field, or Use a template to start from a saved column.
For a template, choose one from the list. Each is marked AI or Structured, with the kind of answer it gives. Search or choose a category to narrow the list.
Check the Label, the Type and the Question or Field, then click Add column.
Fill in the answers
Click Generate at the top right of the grid.
Choose Fill missing cells to answer only the empty cells, or Recompute all to answer every cell again.
Progress shows beside the title while IQ works through the cells. Structured fields fill at once; AI questions take longer, because IQ reads for each cell.
Export the grid
- Click Export at the top right to download the grid as an Excel workbook.
Tips from practice
- Use Fill missing cells after adding rows or a column: it leaves answers you have already checked alone.
- Use Recompute all after the records or documents behind the answers have changed.
- Your organisation's administrators can save standard columns for everyone. See Give your team standard insight columns.
