Deal with overdue deadlines

Find every overdue task, decide which are real breaches, give each an owner and a priority, and see which entities carry the most late work.

Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

A late filing costs more each day it stays late, and Companies House penalties rise with the delay. When the Overdue count is above zero, that list comes before anything else. The question that decides the order is whether a statutory deadline has passed, or only a reminder date IQ Entities set itself.

Find what is late

  1. Open Compliance Calendar. Overdue, in red, counts the open tasks whose statutory deadline has passed.

  2. The list opens with the Past due group. A date in red, with the number of days overdue beneath it, is a statutory deadline that has passed.

What the row shows What it means What to do
Date in red, days overdue beneath it A statutory deadline has passed Act today, and tell whoever answers to the board
Under Past due, date in grey An advisory date IQ Entities set as a reminder; nothing is in breach Do the work this week, after the red ones
Blocked in the Status column Someone has said the work cannot move Open the task and find out what it is waiting for

Give each one an owner and a priority

  1. Check the Assignee column. An unassigned task is the one nobody is chasing; assign it from the same cell. See Assign tasks to people and teams.

  2. Click the task's priority to change it.

  3. Choose Urgent for a breach that has to be cleared first. The change is saved straight away, and it does not move the deadline.

Close it the right way

Open the task and do the work it describes; see Open a task and see what raised it. Many overdue tasks cannot be marked done from the list. Click the status and Done is greyed out, with the reason written beneath: the task closes itself when the evidence arrives, such as the filing being accepted by the registry.

To file with Companies House from the task, see File a form from its task.

See which entities are behind

  1. Open Forecast and choose By entity. Choose Only with overdue. The number beside it counts the entities with overdue work.

  2. The table lists only those entities, each with its earliest deadline, in red when it is overdue, and its Overdue count. Sort by Most overdue to put the worst first.

Tips from practice

  • Check the date before you file a task that is years overdue. If the event it counts from was recorded with the wrong date, correct the record and the deadline follows.
  • An overdue statutory deadline is escalated to the organisation's administrators once it has been late for a week by default, so expect the question from them. See Get reminded before a deadline.
  • Record why a filing is late in the task's notes while you remember. A director signing the late filing will ask.
  • Prevention is cheaper: assign tasks as they appear and use Due soon as the weekly list.
