Report a new director to Companies House
File the AP01 for a director recorded in IQ Entities, from the task the appointment raised.
Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.
When a director joins, Companies House must be told within 14 days of the appointment. Recording the appointment in IQ Entities raises the task for the AP01, and everything the form sends comes from the record: the director's name, date of birth, nationality, addresses and personal code. Nothing is typed into the filing itself.
Before you file
Record the appointment on the company's register of officers: see Appoint a director.
Make sure the director has a personal code saved: see Record a director's personal code. Without one, the task lists the code under Needed to file.
File the appointment
Open the (AP01) File the director’s appointment task from Compliance Calendar. The sentence under the title names the director and the date they were appointed.
Fill in anything listed under Needed to file, such as a service address on the appointment.
Click File a registry form.
Check Review before filing: the director's name, date of birth, nationality, country of residence, service address, usual residential address, identity verification and date of appointment. The personal code is sent but never shown.
Click File it.
Tips from practice
- Get the director's consent to act before filing. The AP01 states that consent was given.
- The service address goes on the public register; the usual residential address does not. Check which is which on the appointment before you file.
- If the name on file differs from the name the director verified with, record why on the person's Companies House page. The review says when no reason is recorded.
