Update a person's profile
Keep a person's name, contact details and personal particulars current, and record when a filed detail actually changed.
Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.
A person's Profile holds their name, how to reach them and the particulars that appear on officer filings: nationality, country of residence, title. When a director marries and changes surname, or moves country, update the profile once and every company where they serve reads the change.
Some of these details are held by Companies House for every company where the person is an officer or a person with significant control. For someone who serves a UK company, changing one of them asks when the change happened, so the right filings are raised.
Edit the profile
Open People, click the person's row, and stay on Profile.
Change the fields you need. A bar at the foot of the page says You have unsaved changes. Nothing is saved until you click Save changes; Discard puts everything back.
Say when a filed detail changed
If the edit touches a detail Companies House holds, such as a surname, the bar asks When did this change? before you can save.
| Situation | Choose |
|---|---|
| The director changed their name on marriage last week | The details changed, with the date it happened |
| The name was spelt wrong when it was entered | This corrects a mistake |
The details changed raises a filing task in every company where the person is an officer or a person with significant control; Companies House must be told within 14 days. This corrects a mistake keeps the record straight and files nothing.
Record their addresses
Choose Addresses in the person's sidebar.
Click New address, choose the type, such as service, residential or business, and fill it in.
Companies House filings do not read this list. A director's usual residential address is recorded under Identity & PII, and their service address on each appointment; see Record a person's identity details.
Tips from practice
- Fill in Country of residence as a country name. It is filed on officer and LLP member forms.
- Record the date of a change from the evidence, such as the marriage certificate or the director's notice, not the day you heard about it.
- If you can view a person but not change them, the profile shows their details without a form.
