Read the law behind a duty

Open a duty's own page from its task to see the law and section it comes from and how it is done in IQ Entities.

Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

When a director asks why a task is on the calendar, or a new colleague asks how a filing is done here, the answer is on the duty's own page. Every task raised from a duty links to it, so you can go from "what do I do today" to "which section of which Act says so" in one click.

Open the duty from its task

  1. Open the task. In the card Why this exists and what is expected of you, the duty's name sits beside the heading. Click it.

  2. Where this comes from names the law and the section the duty is under.

  3. Why this exists and what is expected of you sets out why the duty exists, what must be done and what happens if it is not.

  4. How to do it in IQ Entities says where the work is done here, what IQ Entities does for you and what it leaves to you.

Tips from practice

  • A duty marked Maintained by IQ Entities is kept up to date centrally. To add a duty of your own, or change how one applies to your group, see Write your own requirement and Add a framework of your own.
  • Where the text carries a warning sign, it points at something that changes, such as penalty amounts or size thresholds. Check the source before you quote a figure to a board.
  • A task's own copy of the text shows the revision it follows. If the duty has been edited since the task was raised, the task says so.
  • Which duties an entity owes, and why, is shown on its Obligations Overview.
