File a confirmation statement
Answer the statement's questions on its task, check what it will confirm, and file it with Companies House.

Once a year every UK company confirms to Companies House that the information it holds is up to date. IQ Entities raises the confirmation statement task on the company's cycle and builds the statement from your registers, so the work is answering two questions and checking what the statement will say. The question that decides the filing is whether anything about the shareholders has changed since the last statement.
Answer the questions on the task
Open the confirmation statement task from Compliance Calendar.
Answer Has any shareholder information changed since the last confirmation statement? A new or departed shareholder, a transfer or allotment of shares, or a change to a shareholder's name all count. Yes sends Companies House the full list of shareholders; No sends none, and Companies House keeps the list it has.
If the company has no trading status on record, answer Were any of the company’s shares traded on a market during this period? Filing saves the answer to the company, so next year's statement does not ask.
Check the statement and file it
Read What this filing will send on the task. Statement type shows whether the statement also confirms each serving director's identity verification; when it does, every serving director needs a personal code on file.
Read the notes under the comparison. They say what is not being sent, such as SIC codes or a statement of capital, and what Companies House will keep as a result.
Click File a registry form, check Review before filing, and click File it.
| Situation | What to answer |
|---|---|
| No shares moved and no shareholder changed name this year | No |
| Shares were transferred, allotted or bought back during the year | Yes |
| A shareholder changed their name, or left the register | Yes |
Tips from practice
- Record every transfer and allotment from the year before you answer Yes. The list sent is the register as it stood on the confirmation date.
- A statement that names a director without a personal code cannot be filed. Check the Companies House codes page a few weeks before the date: see Find the Companies House codes still missing.
- Check the SIC codes in the note. When none are sent, Companies House keeps the ones it already holds, which may no longer describe the business.
