Find out why a deadline is missing

Work out why a deadline you expect is missing from the calendar, and record the fact or requirement that puts it there.

Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

A missing deadline is more dangerous than a late one, because nobody is looking for it. When you expect a confirmation statement, a set of accounts or a renewal and the calendar is quiet, there is always a reason, and it is one of five. Work through them in order.

What you see Why What to do
The duty is listed with a date, Up to date Its task appears only when the reminder period opens Wait, or choose Create to start now
Cannot be scheduled A fact the deadline is counted from is missing Choose Set it and record the fact
The duty is under Event-driven It only starts when something happens Record the change; the task follows
The duty is under Not in force It was snoozed, or the entity's groups no longer require it Ask an administrator to check the groups
The duty is not listed at all No group the entity is in requires it Attach the requirement to a group

Check the entity's obligations

  1. Open the entity and choose Obligations Overview under Compliance in its sidebar. Every duty the entity is under is listed, dated or not. See Review everything an entity owes.

  2. Find the duty you expected.

The task is not due yet

A recurring duty raises its task a set number of days before the deadline: its reminder lead, shown on the obligation's own page. Until then the duty shows its Next due date and Up to date. To start early, choose Create beside it, and the task is raised now. The Forecast lists these deadlines as Projected until their tasks appear.

The duty is waiting on a fact

  1. A duty that says Cannot be scheduled is waiting on something not yet recorded, such as an accounting reference date. Its status reads Blocked.

  2. Create is greyed out, because there is no date to raise the task against. Hover it to read what is missing.

  3. Choose Set it beside the reason.

  4. The entity's details open at the missing field. Record it and save. The duty is dated, and its task appears when its reminder period opens.

The duty starts with an event

Duties under Event-driven have no date: a director's appointment has to be reported only once a director is appointed. Create beside one explains which change starts it, and Go there now opens the page where that change is recorded.

The duty is not owed at all

A duty reaches an entity only through a group it belongs to. If the duty is missing from the Obligations Overview, or sits under Not in force, the entity is not in a group that requires it, or the requirement was taken off the group. An administrator attaches requirements to groups; see Assign requirements to a group. For a duty IQ Entities does not provide, see Write your own requirement.

Tips from practice

  • Check new entities on the day they are added. A company with no year end or incorporation date recorded cannot be dated for its accounts or confirmation statement.
  • On the Forecast, a note that an entity has no obligations recorded means exactly that: nothing has been derived for it yet, which is not the same as nothing due.
  • A registration with no expiry date raises no renewal; see Keep licences and registrations renewed.
  • If an entity's whole list says No obligations yet, check its jurisdiction and entity type first. Those decide which groups it falls into.
