Label entities with a company group
Put each company in a company group, such as a portfolio or a division, and label its subsidiaries with it in one go.

A company group is a label for the part of your organisation a company belongs to: a fund's investment, a division, a regional sub-group. Each company belongs to one company group at a time, and the register can be filtered by it. When you label a parent company, IQ Entities offers to label the companies it controls with the same group, so a sub-group is labelled in one step.
You need permission to edit entities to change a company's group.
Label a company
On the Entity Register, find the company and click its Company group cell. A company without a group reads Unassigned.
Choose a group from the list, or type a new name and choose Create "…" to create it. The line at the bottom says how far the choice will reach: this company only, or the companies it controls as well.
If the company controls others, a dialog lists them with their current group. Untick any company that should keep its own group, then click Apply to … to label them all.
A company already in another group is moved, because a company belongs to one group at a time. The company you started from is always included.
Take a company out of its group
- Click the company's group in the Company group column.
- Choose Remove from …. If the company controls others still carrying that group, the dialog asks which of them to clear as well; each one you leave ticked becomes Unassigned.
Tips from practice
- Filter the register by Company group, then Unassigned, to find the companies nobody has labelled yet.
- A company group is a label somebody sets, and it does not change on its own. To group companies by something that describes them, such as every dormant company or every company in one jurisdiction, use a requirement assignment instead, which keeps its members up to date from your data.
- To pick out a fixed set of companies for a project, see Group entities by hand.
