Add or remove a task by hand

Add a one-off task to the Compliance Calendar, or delete a task raised in error with a reason kept on the record.

Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

Duties the law imposes arrive on the calendar by themselves. A task you add by hand is for the work no duty covers: collecting a board pack, chasing a signature, a promise made to an auditor. Before adding one, ask whether it is really a recurring duty. If it is, it belongs in a requirement, so it comes back every year; see Write your own requirement.

Add a task

  1. On the Compliance Calendar, choose New task. In an entity's own calendar, the task is added to that entity.

  2. Name the task under Task, and choose the Entity it is about, or leave it organisation-wide. Set the Type, Priority, Due date and Assignee, and add any Notes.

  3. Choose Create task.

Delete a task raised in error

  1. Choose the actions menu at the end of the task's row.

  2. Choose Delete.

  3. Say why the task is being deleted, then choose Delete task.

The task moves to the History tab rather than being destroyed, and keeps its evidence and history. Your reason is written to the task's audit history and cannot be edited afterwards.

Tips from practice

  • Write the reason for the person who asks next year why the task disappeared: "raised in error", "duplicate of", "company struck off in March".
  • Deleting a task does not stop the duty behind it. If the entity no longer owes the duty, that is a change to its groups or requirements, not to the task.
  • A task added by hand closes with Mark done in its header; see Mark a task as done.
