Confirm a duty no record can settle

Close a task whose only proof is your judgement, such as taking reasonable steps, with a note of what was done.

Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

Some duties cannot be proved by anything IQ Entities holds. The law asks a company to take reasonable steps, to keep a policy under review, or to pay a tax IQ Entities cannot see. For these, the proof is a person confirming the work was done, and the note you leave is the evidence. The question to answer before you confirm: could you show a regulator what you did?

Read what the task asks

  1. Open the task. Why this date says when the law sets no deadline at all. A continuing duty is never late, but it is never finished either.

  2. The Proof card on the right says nothing is satisfied yet. Its one criterion is a person confirming the work.

  3. What we hold shows the record the duty is about. Read it before you confirm: here the register holds no entries, which is not the same as the company having none. Manage opens the register to correct it.

Confirm it

  1. In Do the work, write what was done under What was done: who you wrote to, when, and where the replies are kept. Attach the letter or the reply under Document if you have it.

  2. Choose Mark as done.

  3. The Proof card now says every criterion is satisfied, each with its evidence recorded.

Tips from practice

  • Confirm what was done, not what was intended. A note that says "to be chased" is a reason to leave the task open.
  • If What we hold is wrong, correct the register first. A confirmation sitting beside a register that contradicts it will be the first thing a reviewer questions.
  • The task's History tab records who closed it and when, and your note stays under What was done.
  • For a duty filed or paid elsewhere, with a reference to record, see Record a filing made with another regulator.
