Mark a task as done
Record what was done on a task, attach the receipt if you have one, and close it with an evidence pack behind it.
Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.
Some tasks close themselves when the evidence arrives, such as a filing accepted by Companies House. Others depend on something that happens outside IQ Entities: a licence renewed on a regulator's portal, a policy reviewed, a fee paid. For those, you close the task, and what you write when you do is the record a reviewer reads later.
Record what was done
Open the task and find Do the work. Under What was done, say where the proof lives or what you checked.
Drop the receipt, confirmation or signed copy into Document if you have one. Both fields are optional, but a task closed with neither says only that it was closed.
Choose Mark as done.
Check it closed
The task now reads Done, Do the work becomes What was done with your note and the time you recorded it, and Evidence pack in the header downloads the record of how the task was discharged.
Mark done or Mark as done
| Situation | Use |
|---|---|
| The work happened and you want the record to say how | Mark as done in Do the work, with a note and a document |
| A task you raised yourself, with nothing to evidence | Mark done in the header |
| The header shows Closes itself | Neither. The task closes when its proof is satisfied |
Tips from practice
- Write the note for someone who was not there: the portal used, the reference issued, where the signed copy is filed.
- Closing a renewal task does not change the registration. Update the expiry date on the registration so its next renewal is dated from the new expiry; see Keep licences and registrations renewed.
- A closed task moves to the History tab of the calendar with the date it closed. If more work turns up, raise a new task rather than reopening the old one.
- A task with an approval still outstanding cannot be marked done until the approvers have answered; see Follow an approval request through.
