See your group structure

Read who owns a company and what it owns, as a chart or a list, today or on any past date.

Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

Auditors, banks and new directors all ask for the same picture: who owns this company, and what does it own. IQ Entities draws it from the cap tables you keep, so the chart is as current as the last shareholding you recorded. Nothing is drawn by hand.

Open the structure chart

  1. Open the company and choose Relationships in its sidebar. The page opens on the Structure chart tab: the company's owners above it, its subsidiaries below, and each line labelled with the percentage held. A solid line is control (more than 50% of the votes); a dashed line is a minority holding.

  2. Click a company's card to see its details without leaving the chart.

  3. Use the zoom controls in the corner of the chart, or the full-screen button at the end of the toolbar, when the group is too large to read in the space.

Narrow what the chart shows

  1. Choose Filters. The number beside it counts the filters in force.

  2. Set the Direction to Owners, Subsidiaries or Both, and choose whether to Show entities, Show people and Hide external holders. Minimum ownership hides holdings below a percentage, and Entity status limits the chart to companies in the statuses you pick.

A new chart starts filtered to active companies and holdings of 5% or more. If a holding you expect is missing, check the filters before the cap table, and choose Reset to go back to that starting point.

See the group on a past date

  1. Type a date in As at, beside the page title. The chart replays ownership from the securities ledger as it stood that day, and names each company as it was then, where its name history records it.

  2. Choose Back to today to return to the group as it stands.

Status badges on a dated chart are today's, because a company's status has no dated history to replay. If IQ Entities warns that the dated chart is incomplete, some holdings were entered as a balance with no ledger entry behind them; record an opening balance against each so the dated chart and today's agree.

Read it as a list

  1. Choose the Register tab.

  2. Each direct owner and subsidiary is listed with its Relationship, its Voting and Economic percentage, and its Status. Click a subsidiary to move to its own structure.

Tips from practice

  • The chart is only as good as the cap tables behind it. When a percentage looks wrong, fix the shareholding on the company's cap table rather than looking for a setting here.
  • Identify colours the chart by owners and subsidiaries above a cumulative percentage you choose, which is a quick way to answer "which companies does the parent control, directly or indirectly?".
  • The key beside the chart explains its colours, lines and shapes. To hide it, or bring it back, click your name at the foot of the sidebar, choose Settings, then Appearance, and switch Show diagram legend. The choice applies to the modelling canvas too, and is kept on this device only.
  • Use a past date when a due diligence request asks for the group "as at completion" or "as at the last year end".
  • To share the chart, see Export a structure chart. To sketch a change to it, see Model a proposed reorganisation.
