Connect the New Zealand Companies Office

Sign in with RealMe once, so annual returns, director changes and address changes for New Zealand companies go out from IQ Entities.

Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.

For a group with New Zealand subsidiaries, IQ Entities files annual returns, director changes and address changes with the Companies Office. There is no password to store: the filer signs in with their own RealMe login, and IQ Entities files with exactly the authority that person holds on the Companies Register.

An administrator with the permission to manage the organisation's settings makes the connection, signed in as the person who will file. The question that decides who that is: who holds authority over the companies on the Companies Register?

Before you start

  • A RealMe login, linked to a Companies Office online services account, for the person who will file.
  • Authority over each company, granted on the Companies Office website: by company key, by an existing authority holder, by identity verification or by letter of authorisation. Directors do not get it automatically. An authority held by your organisation's Companies Office account covers all its members.
  • Each company's NZBN, recorded as the registration number on its home New Zealand registration: see Add a registration.
  • For annual returns, a direct debit for the filing fee, set up on the Companies Office website.

Sign in with RealMe

  1. In Administration, open Integrations and click the New Zealand Companies Office tile.

  2. Click Sign in with RealMe. The browser goes to RealMe; sign in and approve IQ Entities' access.

  3. You come back to Integrations, where a message confirms the registry account is connected and the panel says Connected, with the name of the person it files as.

How filing works, on the same panel, lists these steps under Getting set up, and every form offered under The filings.

Check it is working

Open a New Zealand company's Registrations page. The File with New Zealand Companies Office card lists the forms and says whose account it files under. The filing itself is in File with a registry outside the UK.

Sign in again or disconnect

  • The sign-in lapses after about two weeks. Click Sign in again with RealMe on the panel to renew it, before a filing is due.
  • To stop filing, click Disconnect. The sign-in is forgotten, and filings already made keep their history.

Tips from practice

  • Connect as the person who holds the authority, not as whoever happens to administer IQ Entities. Filings go out with the rights of the RealMe login that signed in.
  • Check the authority on the Companies Office website before a new subsidiary's first filing. A director appointed this year does not have it until it is granted.
  • Filings go to the Companies Office's live service and onto the public register.
