Find the Companies House codes still missing

A filing needs two codes besides the presenter account: the company's authentication code, and the personal code of each director it names. A missing one holds the filing up on the day it is due. The Companies House codes page lists both across every UK company in your organisation, and opens on what is missing, so an empty list is the good news.

Open the codes page

1. In Administration, open Integrations, click the Companies House e-filing tile and choose Filing codes. A Fix it link on a filing task that is missing a code also brings you to the right place.

2. Read the line under the title: how many UK companies there are, how many are without an authentication code, and how many people are without a personal code. These counts are for the whole organisation, whatever the list below is filtered to.

Work through what is missing

1. The page opens on Missing. Choose On file to see the codes already saved, or All for everything.

   

2. Under Company authentication codes, each company shows its company number and No code or Code on file. Click Add code on a company to save its code; see Save a company's authentication code.

3. Under Personal codes (identity verification), each director or person with significant control of a UK company is listed the same way. Click Add code to save the code they were given; see Record a director's personal code.

4. Use the search box to find a company by name or number, or a person by name.

Tips from practice

• A company showing No company number cannot file anything until its home UK registration carries the number, whatever codes are saved.
• Seeing the personal codes needs the People · View PII permission as well as read access. Without it the section explains what is missing rather than listing people.
• Run down the list before the confirmation statement season. The statement names every serving director, and one director without a personal code holds the whole statement.
