Follow a filing after you submit it
Know what happens between filing and acceptance, and what to do when Companies House accepts or rejects a filing.
Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.
Companies House does not accept a filing the moment it arrives. It queues the filing, examines it, and then accepts or rejects it. Until it answers, the filing is Submitted and the task stays open, because filing is not the same as the duty being done.
While Companies House examines it
The task's card reads In progress, submitted and waiting for the registrar. There is nothing more to do until Companies House answers.
IQ Entities asks Companies House for the outcome every hour. To ask now, find the filing on the Filings page and click Check on its row.
When Companies House accepts it
The filing moves to Confirmed on the Filings page.
The task closes itself. Nobody needs to mark it done, because the registrar's acceptance is what discharges it.
Once Companies House publishes the filing, IQ Entities fetches the registrar's copy overnight and keeps it as evidence on the task, under Proof.
When Companies House rejects it
The filing moves to Rejected, and the task stays open with its original deadline.
Open the task, find the cause, and correct the record. The usual causes are an authentication code or a personal code Companies House does not recognise, or a date it will not accept.
File again from the same task. Each attempt is listed on the task.
Tips from practice
- A rejection uses up a submission number and the deadline does not move, so correct the cause before filing again rather than resubmitting as it is.
- Check a saved authentication code with Show before refiling a rejected filing: see Save a company's authentication code.
- Keep the registrar's copy with the board papers for the decision it reports; it is the proof an auditor asks for.
