Ask IQ about one entity or the whole group
Choose the scope before you ask, so IQ answers about this company, everything it controls, or the whole organisation.
Screenshots are retaken from IQ Entities on every release. Updated 14 October 2026.
"Who are the directors?" has a different answer for one company, for a parent and its subsidiaries, and for the whole organisation. IQ is told the scope of the page you are on with every question you send, and assumes you mean it when your question does not name a company. Choosing the scope first lets you ask short questions and get the answer for the right set of companies.
| You want an answer about | Ask from |
|---|---|
| One company's own records | the company's page with This entity selected |
| A parent and every company it controls | the parent's page with This group selected |
| Everything in your organisation | IQ Assistant, or any page in Global scope |
| One person | the person's own page |
Ask about one company
Open the company. See Work on one entity or the whole group.
Click Ask IQ in the top bar and ask without naming the company:
Who are the directors, and when was each appointed?
Widen the same question to the group
In the top bar, choose This group. With IQ open, This entity and This group can show as two icons beside the breadcrumb; the second is This group.
Ask your next question. IQ now takes "this group" to mean the company and the companies it controls:
Which companies in this group have no fiscal year end recorded?
The scope is read when each question is sent, so one chat can move between the company and its group.
Ask about the whole organisation
Open IQ Assistant from the sidebar, or ask from a page in Global scope. Name the companies or the group you mean, since there is no page to take it from.
Tips from practice
- When the answer looks too short, check the scope switcher at the top of the sidebar: a question asked from one company is answered about that company.
- Name the company in the question whenever it is not the one on screen. IQ falls back on the page only when your question names no company or person.
- On a structure model, IQ is told which canvas is open instead; see Draw a proposed structure with IQ.
